Artist Statement

John McGee, B.A. in Art from Mississippi State University (1986). John lived and worked as a graphic designer, illustrator and creative director in 8 states across the U.S. before finally settling in Hamilton, MT. He has received over 30 national and international illustration and design awards and is currently employed at Hamilton High School in Hamilton, MT.

 
 
 
 

He enjoys creating optimistic visual scenarios using a variety of media found across the country. The clay found in some pieces is still dug from a specific spot found as a child growing up in Mississippi. The blue frame on “This is not my Orb” is made from siding from the travel trailer his family used on their many adventures west, which cemented his love of the area. Each piece has a story.

Howard Finster, R.A. Miller and Keith Haring were early influences on his work which continues to evolve. “Animals” includes some of John’s latest thoughts. Enjoy!
