Courtney enjoys seeing when someone glances at her paintings for the first time and then leans in to take a closer look. That lean-in is the moment when they’ve unlocked the many details that are highlighted, whether it’s the texture of a meadowlark’s leg, or the velvety surface of a red rose.

The watercolor paintings and watercolor and ink illustrations have always been about capturing those elements, sometimes with a pen, and sometimes with layer after layer of transparent paint, until the subject is elevated and remade into something new.
